The great goddess of the pacific rim, Pele, is a mysterious figure that has any number of origin stories depending on the tradition that speaks of her. There are a few points of narrative that are universal: she lived in a great city, had parents and powerful brothers and sisters, and she was driven from her homeland. Huakai: Pele’s Journey is a SciFi retelling of the Pele myth.
In our story, Pele is a young practitioner of the Sacred Arts – powerful elemental magics that allow her and her brothers and sisters in the school to exhibit powerful effect. Their mentor and teacher, Lonomakua tries to temper that power with patience and humanity.
